EMPHASIS: Results Of DWI Checkpoint In Cass County On August 28, 2010


Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted on Saturday evening, August 28, 2010. The checkpoint was a joint effort with the Cass County DWI Task Force, which includes the following agencies: Belton Police Department, Cass County Sheriff's Office, Raymore Police Department, Harrisonville Police Department, Garden City Police Department, Peculiar Police Department, and Cleveland Police Department. The checkpoint was held from 10 p.m. on Saturday to 3 a.m. on Sunday and was located on Missouri Highway 58 at Missouri Route D. The location was determined by past arrests, incidents, and traffic crashes in the county.

A total of 401 cars were checked during this five-hour operation and members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Cass County DWI Task Force made the following arrests:

5 -- DWI
7 -- driver's license summonses
26 -- uninsured motorist summonses
2 -- non-moving summonses
1 -- misdemeanor warrant arrest
25 -- warnings

The focus of law enforcement is to enforce all laws and apprehend violators. The goal of DWI enforcement projects is to deter impaired driving and to make citizens aware that drinking and driving will not be tolerated. To report a suspected intoxicated driver dial 911 or *55 on your cell phone.
