EMPHASIS: Shooting In Fairfax, Missouri

At approximately 9:27 a.m. on July 6, 2020, the Atchison County Sheriff's Office received a report of a shooting at 611 Pine Street in Fairfax, Missouri. Deputies arrived on the scene and located one victim, who sustained an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was then transported to Fairfax Hospital where the individual was pronounced deceased. Preliminary investigation revealed, after the shooting, the suspect retreated into an apartment at that location. At approximately 10:47 a.m., the suspect exited the apartment building and surrendered to law enforcement. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The identity of the suspect is part of the ongoing investigation and will be released at a later time.

The Atchison County Sheriff requested the assistance of the Missouri State Highway Patrol to conduct the investigation into the shooting. Criminal investigators with the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control have been assigned to investigate. The investigation is active and ongoing.
