EMPHASIS: Troop C To Host Boater Safety Courses

Captain Ryan A. Burckhardt, commanding officer of Troop C, Weldon Spring, would like to announce Troop C is providing three opportunities for members of the public to attend a Boater Safety Course. These approved courses meet the national boating educational standard. Each class begins at 8 a.m. and will end at approximately 4 p.m. Participants are encouraged to bring snacks and a sack lunch. Dates the course is being offered include March 26, April 16, and May 14, 2022. The classes are being held at the Troop C Headquarters, 891 Technology Drive, Weldon Spring, MO. Although there is no age limit to attend the course, participants need to be able to take a test without assistance. The course will cover water safety and Missouri laws. Missouri law requires any person born after January 1, 1984, to carry a boater safety education certification card along with a picture ID anytime they operate a vessel, which includes personal watercraft, on Missouri lakes. The classroom courses provided by the Missouri State Highway Patrol are free, but registration is required and the boater ID card costs $15.

Interested persons may sign up for a certified course in a classroom at: https://www.mshp.dps.missouri.gov/WP02Web/app/safetyEdClasses

U.S. Coast Guard statistics for 2020 indicate where the level of operator education was known, 77 percent of boating deaths occurred on vessels where the operator had not received boating education instruction.

Watercraft operators must consider the effect their actions have on others: Share the waterway and use common sense, good judgment, and courtesy to ensure the safety of all. Life jackets save lives. Wear It!!
