EMPHASIS: Colonel Alvin R. Lubker Memorial Safety & Education Center

Colonel Ron Replogle, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces the Patrol's Safety Education Center has been re-named the Colonel Alvin R. Lubker Memorial Safety & Education Center. This change was effective December 22, 2012.

Throughout his career, Col. Alvin R. Lubker promoted his belief that education and enforcement were a vital part of highway safety. Col. Lubker and his wife, Marva, donated several items to the Safety Education Center, which opened in 1982. Many of those items remain on display today, including several uniforms and badges, documents and displays, a 1931 Ford Roadster known as “Otto—the Talking Car,” and a 1942 Chevrolet patrol car. Even in retirement, Col. Lubker was passionate about the Patrol’s mission and purpose. He remained convinced that education, along with enforcement, was the proper avenue to highway safety. On November 13, 2012, Al Lubker, 79, died in Scottsdale, AZ.

"As a tribute to a former superintendent, who believed strongly in safety education, the Safety Education Center was renamed the Colonel Alvin R. Lubker Memorial Safety & Education Center," said Col. Replogle. "Through Col. Lubker's tireless work a large portion of Patrol history has been preserved for future generations, and education in highway safety has become widely accepted."
