EMPHASIS: Results Of Troop E DWI Checkpoint In Butler County

Captain George E. Ridens, commanding officer of Troop E, announces the results of a DWI checkpoint conducted in Troop E, Butler County, beginning at 11 p.m. on March 19, 2011, and ending at 3 a.m. on March 20, 2011. During the operation, troopers were assigned to conduct a sobriety checkpoint at a location known to have a high number of alcohol-related arrests and traffic crashes. The Poplar Bluff Police Department and the Butler County Sheriff’s Department assisted Patrol officers with this checkpoint.
Troopers made 12 arrests during the shift: eight driving while intoxicated arrests, two felony drug arrests, and two misdemeanor warrant arrests. Traffic citations issued by officers included one for speed, nine for failure to wear safety belt, four for no driver’s license, three for uninsured motorist, one non-moving violation, and one for minor in possession. Troopers also issued 78 warnings for various other traffic violations during the operation, and a total of 253 vehicles were stopped.
Captain Ridens stated, “The impaired driver continues to be a major contributor to serious traffic crashes in Southeast Missouri. DWI checkpoints are a part of the Patrol’s effort to remove intoxicated drivers from Missouri roadways. The troopers in the Troop E area will continue to pursue this goal.”
