EMPHASIS: Traffic Stop On Interstate 55 Results In Drug Arrests

On September 28, 2010, at approximately 10:18 p.m., a member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol stopped a 2010 Chevrolet Impala traveling north on Interstate 55 in New Madrid County for a traffic violation.
The driver Steven D. Watson, 26, of Indianapolis, Indiana, was stopped for a traffic violation. During the course of the traffic stop, permission to search was requested and denied. A Patrol K-9 responded to the scene and gave a positive indication for drugs in the vehicle. During the subsequent search, one kilo of cocaine was located in the trunk of the vehicle. Watson, Quincy D. Williams, 31, and Nathaniel T. Dixson, 26, all from Indianapolis, Indiana, were arrested for possession of a controlled substance and drug trafficking, and taken to the New Madrid County Jail.
The charges for which Watson, Williams, Dixson were arrested are mere accusations and not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
