EMPHASIS: Iowa Fugutive Arrested In New Madrid County

At approximately 9:44 a.m., on September 19, 2012, Steven L. Adcock, 42, of Letts, Iowa, was arrested on Iowa warrants for escape from the Fort Madison State Penitentiary, felony larceny, and felony resisting arrest.

At approximately 9:35 a.m., on September 19, 2012, a Missouri state trooper was conducting stationary radar on Missouri Highway 153 in Stoddard County, when the trooper observed a white, southbound passenger vehicle that was traveling above the posted speed limit. The trooper pulled in behind the vehicle and began following it. The vehicle began accelerating at a high rate of speed and the trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to yield to the trooper and a 10- to 12-mile pursuit ensued. The pursuit ended when the driver lost control and crashed the vehicle near the city of Parma, MO, in New Madrid County. The driver was taken into custody without further incident. The driver was identified as Steven L. Adcock, 42, of Letts, Iowa. Adcock was serving a 16-year prison sentence at Fort Madison State Penitentiary for 3rd degree burglary, 2nd degree theft, eluding authorities, and drug possession. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the vehicle Adcock was driving was reported stolen from Waverly, MO.

Adcock was charged in Missouri with felony tampering with a motor vehicle, felony resisting arrest by fleeing, and numerous traffic violations. Adcock is being held in the Stoddard County Detention Center.

The charges for which Adcock was arrested are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
