EMPHASIS: Results Of Troop E DWI Checkpoint In Butler County


Captain George E. Ridens, commanding officer of Troop E, announces the results of a DWI checkpoint conducted in Troop E, Butler County, beginning on March 13, 2010, at 11 p.m., and ending on March 14, 2010, at 3 a.m. During the operation, troopers were assigned to conduct a sobriety checkpoint at a location known to have a high number of alcohol-related arrests and traffic crashes.
Troopers made 16 arrests during the shift: five driving while intoxicated arrests, four misdemeanor drug arrests, six misdemeanor warrant arrests, and one felony warrant arrest. Traffic citations issued by officers included seven for failure to wear safety belt, three for no driver’s license, six uninsured motorist, one hazardous moving violation, five non-moving violations, four speeding violations, one failure to yield, one stop sign violation, and one minor in possession. Troopers also issued 95 warnings for various other traffic violations during the operation, and a total of 225 vehicles were stopped.
Captain Ridens stated, “The impaired driver continues to be a major contributor to serious traffic crashes in Southeast Missouri. DWI checkpoints are a part of the Patrol’s effort to remove intoxicated drivers from Missouri roadways. The troopers in the Troop E area will continue to pursue this goal.”
