EMPHASIS: Troop E Responds To Flooding Conditions

Recent heavy rain in Southeast Missouri has caused widespread flash flooding. Troop E, which encompasses 13 counties in Southeast Missouri, has been hit particularly hard. Troop E officers have been assisting state, county, and local agencies with flood relief efforts. All forms of leave have been cancelled and Troop E officers are currently working 12-hour shifts to provide 24-hour coverage and resources in the affected areas. The Missouri State Highway Patrol's Water Patrol Division currently has three boats, each containing a two trooper team. Two additional boats have been assigned, which will raise the compliment of boats to a total of five, providing 24-hour coverage for water rescues. Additional troopers from around the state are responding to assist Troop E officers.

Captain George E. Ridens, commanding officer, Troop E, Poplar Bluff said, "I urge all citizens in the affected areas to listen to the warnings being posted and evacuate when necessary." Captain Ridens went on to say, "People should never drive through fast-moving water; even a small amount of fast-moving water can sweep a slow-moving vehicle off the roadway." The Missouri State Highway Patrol urges motorists to respect barriers and barricades put in place by MoDOT. They are there to protect you; it is illegal to go around them.
