EMPHASIS: Troop D Prepares For The Labor Day Holiday Weekend

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, Springfield, announces upcoming plans for Troop D officers to participate in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) and a special enforcement operation for the Labor Day holiday. This means every available trooper will be on the road enforcing traffic laws and helping motorists in need of assistance.
Additionally, Troop D officers will be conducting a special enforcement operation to maximize visibility on Interstate 44 in the Troop D area on Friday, September 4, 2015 and Monday, September 7, 2015. During this enforcement program, troopers will be targeting all traffic violations with a goal of reducing traffic crashes over the holiday weekend. Enforcement efforts on secondary roads within Troop D will also be conducted during the same time frame.
“The Labor Day weekend traditionally marks the end of the summer season, and for many families, this means traveling. These enforcement initiatives are developed and implemented to ensure the safety of the motoring public,” stated Captain Villanueva. “Remember to do your part and don't become another statistic. Obey the speed limit, pay attention to the job of driving, always buckle your seat belt, and if you are going to drink, please do not drive.”
Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
