EMPHASIS: Troop C Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend Totals

Captain Stephen B. Ferrier, commanding officer of Troop C, Weldon Spring, announces the 2017 Thanksgiving holiday traffic crash and preliminary enforcement totals for the Troop C area, which consists of 11 counties.

During the 2017 Thanksgiving weekend traffic crash counting period, which began at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, and ended at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 26, 2017, troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Crash Awareness & Reduction Effort). In addition to Operation C.A.R.E., Troop C troopers conducted a 20-mile trooper project on Interstates 70 and 44, on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, and Sunday, November 26, 2017.

Troopers investigated 95 traffic crashes, in which there were 31 injuries and zero fatalities during the holiday counting period. One fatality crash was investigated by another agency within the Troop C region. Preliminary enforcement totals show Troop C troopers made 31 arrests for driving while intoxicated and 35 arrests for drug violations over the holiday weekend.

During the two 12-hour, 20-mile trooper projects, Troop C troopers issued the following citations:

42-- Exceeded posted speed limit
15-- Seat belt violations
6-- Following too close
19-- Non-moving violations
7--Driving while revoked or suspended
9-- Uninsured motorists
8-- Misdemeanor warrant arrests
11-- Criminal misdemeanor arrests

2-- Felony arrests
76-- Total warnings issued
45-- Motorist assists

“We want to urge motorists to drive safely and take the job of driving seriously,” stated Captain Ferrier. “As the Christmas season approaches, please try to eliminate distractions, buckle up, and have a Merry Christmas.”

The only 100 percent survivable traffic crash is the one that never happens. Make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Every day as we travel on Missouri’s roadways, we trust that every driver on the road is going to obey the speed limit, pay attention, and drive sober. “Don’t Violate The Trust.”
