Troop F Releases Memorial Day Holiday Totals
Captain Michael A. Turner, commanding officer, Troop F, Jefferson City, announces the following preliminary boating and traffic totals for the 2018 Memorial Day holiday period.
Troop F troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Crash Awareness & Reduction Effort) from Friday, May 25, 2018, through Monday, May 28, 2018, meaning every available officer was on the road enforcing traffic laws and assisting motorists. Troop F reported zero fatal traffic crashes, but investigated 33 traffic crashes that included 13 injuries. Troopers made 20 DWI arrests.
The only 100 percent survivable traffic crash is the one that never happens. Make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Every day as we travel on Missouri's roadways, we trust that every driver on the road is going to obey the speed limit, pay attention, and drive sober.
"Don't Violate The Trust."
Troopers assigned to Lake of the Ozarks worked extended shifts--12 hours--during the Memorial Day weekend. There were zero boating fatalities and zero drownings in Troop F. Troopers investigated five boating crashes involving six injuries. Troopers arrested six people for boating while intoxicated.
Watercraft operators must consider the effect their actions have on others: Share the waterway and use common sense, good judgment, and courtesy to ensure the safety of all. Life jackets save lives. Wear It!!
“Even though this major holiday period has ended, we want to urge motorists and boaters to continue to drive safely whether it’s on the highways or waterways,” said Captain Turner. “Our troopers work very hard to keep the motoring and boating public safe.”
