EMPHASIS: Troop E Announces Memorial Day Weekend Totals


Captain George Ridens, commanding officer of Troop E, announces the Memorial Day weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop E area, which consists of 13 counties in Southeast Missouri. The Troop E troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) conducted Friday May 28, 2010, through May 31, 2010.

Troop E officers investigated 43 traffic crashes, which resulted in 17 injuries and one fatality. Troop E officers made 23 arrests for driving while intoxicated; issued 490 speed citations, 197 seat belt summonses, and 18 child restraint citations; and assisted 181 motorists.

Troop E troopers working on Interstate 55 also participated in the 10-Mile Trooper project. Troopers assigned to this operation worked 12-hour shifts to patrol 10-mile intervals on major highways and interstates in Missouri on Friday May 28, 2010, and Monday May 31, 2010. Totals from this operation include:

Captain Ridens said, “We unfortunately lost another life in Troop E this weekend, and I want to remind everyone to continue to pay attention, obey traffic laws, buckle up, and don’t drink and drive. Our troopers continue to work very hard to keep the motoring public safe.”
