EMPHASIS: Colonel Ron Replogle Announces Retirement of Lt. Gregory L. Word

Colonel Ron Replogle, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces the retirement of Lieutenant Gregory L. Word, General Headquarters, after more than 31 years of dedicated service. Lt. Word’s retirement is effective January 1, 2011.

Word began his career with the Patrol on July 9, 1979, as a member of the 50th Recruit Class. After graduating from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy, he was first assigned to Troop D, Zone 7, Neosho, MO. He transferred from Troop D to the Aircraft Division, General Headquarters, as a pilot on August 1, 1988. While in the Aircraft Division, he was promoted to corporal on May 1, 1989, and sergeant on November 1, 1991. Lt. Word holds a commercial helicopter rating, commercial multi and single engine ratings, and has completed instrument ground school. On June 1, 2002, Word was promoted to lieutenant and designated director of the Aircraft Division. It is from this position that he retires.

Word was born in Springfield, MO. He graduated from Clever R-II High School in Clever, MO, in 1973. In 1979, he earned a bachelor’s of science degree in criminal justice from the School of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, MO. Lt. Word and his wife, Deborah, have two grown sons.
