EMPHASIS: Basic Law Enforcement Training Scheduled

The Missouri State Highway Patrol Law Enforcement Academy will host a training program in Jefferson City entitled, “Basic Law Enforcement” from January 2, 2012 through April 20, 2012. This course is intended for persons who are seeking a career in law enforcement.

The Basic Law Enforcement training program is designed to provide the student with the skills and knowledge required to function as a law enforcement officer. The Basic Law Enforcement School is a 600-hour program consisting of instruction in the basic techniques necessary to begin a law enforcement career. Special emphasis is placed in the areas of criminal law, firearms, crime scene procedures, collection of evidence, laws of arrest, search and seizure, physical fitness, techniques and mechanics of arrest, domestic disturbances, and first responder training.

This course has been designed to present the student appropriate subject matter to permit growth as a professional law enforcement officer and to develop the individual’s attitude and discipline required to perform tasks mandated by society. This 15-week course meets the mandatory standards for training of peace officers in the state of Missouri for the 600-hour certificate as established by the Missouri Department of Public Safety, Peace Officer Standards and Training, in accordance with Chapter 590 RSMo. Students are required to successfully complete the standards established for all phases of the scheduled Academy training program prior to being certified as law enforcement officers in Missouri.

The cost for this training is $5,335, which includes tuition, meals, and lodging, or $2,635, which includes tuition and meals. There are a limited number of vacancies in this course.
