EMPHASIS:
Illinois Woman Located In Pike County Identified After 26 Years
On August 26, 1990, the body of a white female was found in a secluded area of Pike County by hikers. A joint investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Pike County Sheriff’s Office was conducted. Both agencies continued the homicide investigation several years.
On July 26, 2016, a Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control investigator, who had previously reviewed the case, received a phone call from an individual asking the DDCC investigator to look into the case. The caller indicated the unidentified female found in August 1990, may be the mother of an acquaintance.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol Drug and Crime investigator reviewed the case, and was able to make a positive identification of the victim, who was identified as Cynthia L. Day. The family members of Ms. Day have been notified their loved one was positively identified.
This is a great example of what the citizens of Missouri and law enforcement can accomplish when information is shared and relationships are bridged.
The investigation is continuing by the Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control and the Pike County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with information is urged to contact DDCC at 636-300-2800, or the Pike County Sheriff’s Office at 573-342-3202.
