EMPHASIS: Local Trooper Wins Special Olympics Unsung Hero Award.
On December 8, 2006 Trooper Jeff Fugett, Troop D, Zone 3, Polk County was presented with the Unsung Hero Award for Law Enforcement at the Capitol Plaza in Jefferson City. The event was attended by Commanders and Division Directors from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Representatives from Special Olympics.
The recipient of the award is selected by each Region Coordinator to give recognition to the individual who is the unsung hero in his or her region. Jeff is one of 2,500 officers who participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. He has given his time selling t-shirts, organizing the annual Harley Raffle and plunges into the freezing water at the Polar Plunge in Branson. Jeff attends the annual International Torch Run Conference each year and beginning in 2007 he will serve on the statewide Law Enforcement Torch Run, (LETR) committee as assistant coordinator for Region 5.
The Patrol commends Trooper Fugett on his award and is proud of the work and dedication Jeff puts toward Special Olympics. The special athletes Jeff serves through Special Olympics live better lives due to his commitment and service.
