EMPHASIS: Pursuit And Officer-Involved Shooting In New Madrid County

At approximately 12:40 p.m., March 6, 2017, a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper initiated a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 60 for a registration violation. The vehicle turned onto Keystone Drive and a short pursuit ensued. The suspect vehicle slid off the road striking a utility pole guy wire. When the vehicle stopped, the front seat passenger fled to scene of foot and was later taken into custody by officers from the Sikeston Department of Public Safety. The rear seat passenger exited the vehicle and fired multiple shots at the trooper and fled the scene on foot. The trooper returned fire. The rear passenger was later taken into custody by officers from the Sikeston Department of Public Safety. The driver placed the vehicle into reverse and fled the scene. The suspect vehicle was later located near the 63-mile marker on Interstate 55. Following an extensive search of the area and the use of a Patrol canine, the driver was taken into custody by officers from the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.
