EMPHASIS: Sgt. William R. Lowry Retires


Colonel Ron Replogle, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces the following retirement effective September 1, 2013:

Sergeant William R. Lowry, Q/RDD, retired after almost 38 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Missouri.

Lowry joined the Missouri State Highway Patrol on November 1, 1975, as a member of the 45th Recruit Class. After graduating from the Patrol's Law Enforcement Academy on April 9, 1976, he was assigned to Troop C, Zone 5, Lincoln/Pike counties. On April 1, 1989, he was promoted to corporal and designated assistant zone commander of Troop C, Zone 5, Lincoln County. He transferred to the Division of Drug and Crime Control, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, on March 15, 1992. Lowry transferred to Troop F, Zone 1, Jefferson City, on July 1, 1995. He then transferred to the Research and Development Division, General Headquarters, on May 1, 1998. On November 1, 1998, he was promoted to sergeant. In his capacity in the Research and Development Division, Lowry served as the accreditation and directives manager, guiding the agency through the extensive requirements necessary to retain accredited status through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc.

Sgt. Lowry grew up in New Sharon, Iowa. He graduated from North Mahaska Community School District in New Sharon. He earned a bachelor's of science degree from Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State University), in Kirksville, MO. He and his wife, Valerie, have four grown children: Jill, Rebecca, Brennan, and Kristen.
