Results Of BWI Checkpoint Operation At Lake Of The Ozarks -- Troop F
Captain Michael A. Turner, commanding officer of Troop F, Jefferson City, announces the results of BWI sobriety checkpoint operations conducted on Lake of the Ozarks on Saturday, August 19, 2017.
Two checkpoint operations were held simultaneously from 4 p.m. until approximately 5:30 p.m. at the 2.5-mile mark of the Big Niangua Arm and the 35-mile mark of the Osage Arm, both in Camden County. A third checkpoint location was held from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the 3-mile mark of the Gravois Arm in Morgan County.
A total of 127 vessels were contacted during the operations. Members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol made the following cumulative enforcement contacts:
4 -- Boating While Intoxicated Arrests
1 -- Allowing Person To Ride On Gunwale/Back Of Boat Arrest
59 -- Warnings
“The purpose of these checkpoint operations is to deter boaters from boating under the influence of drugs or alcohol”, stated Captain Turner. “The Missouri State Highway Patrol will do all we can to ensure that families can spend time on and around the water in a safe environment.”
Watercraft operators must consider the effect their actions have on others: Share the waterway and use common sense, good judgment, and courtesy to ensure the safety of all. Life jackets save lives. Wear It!!
