EMPHASIS: Sgt. Shawn M. Griggs Promoted

Colonel Eric T. Olson, superintendent of the Missouri Highway Patrol, announces the following promotion effective May 1, 2023.

Sergeant Shawn M. Griggs, Division of Drug & Crime Control, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, MO, will be promoted to lieutenant and designated an assistant director of the Gaming Division, General Headquarters, and have oversight responsibility for the Investigative Unit.

Griggs was appointed to the Patrol on October 17, 2004, as a member of the 83rd Recruit Class. After completing his training at the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy, he was assigned to Troop C, Zone 3, St. Louis County. On February 1, 2010, he was promoted to corporal and designated assistant zone supervisor of Troop C, Zone 4, South St. Louis County. In February 2011, he transferred to the Division of Drug & Crime Control as a narcotics investigator. He assumed the responsibilities of coordinator for the East Central Drug Task Force in 2012, while serving in DDCC. Griggs was promoted to sergeant on December 1, 2014, and remained in his assignment within DDCC. He became the division’s public information officer and training officer in 2015, and assumed responsibilities of Missouri Digital Forensics Center operations manager in 2021. Beginning February 2023, he also served as the supervisor for the Illegal Gambling Investigation Unit, DDCC.

Lieutenant Griggs was born in St. Louis, MO, and graduated from Jefferson City High School in Jefferson City, MO, in 1999. He attended Central Methodist University in Fayette, MO, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice in 2004. The university recognized him as one of its Distinguished Young Alumni in 2014. He graduated from Leadership in Police Organizations training in 2017. Lieutenant Griggs is married, and he and his wife have a son.
