EMPHASIS: Results Of Troop E DWI Spotcheck In Butler County

Captain George E. Ridens, commanding officer of Troop E, announces the results of a DWI checkpoint conducted in Troop E, Butler County, beginning at 11 p.m. on April 16, 2011 and ending at 3 a.m. on April 17, 2011. During the operation, troopers were assigned to conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Business 60 in Poplar Bluff. The Poplar Bluff Police Department and the Butler County Sheriff’s Department assisted Patrol officers with the checkpoint.

Troopers made 51 arrests during the checkpoint: six felony drug arrests, one felony and three misdemeanor arrests for driving while intoxicated, and one felony arrest for unlawful use of a weapon. Traffic citations issued by officers included one for speed, thirteen for failure to wear a seatbelt, eleven for no driver’s license, seven uninsured motorist, two minor in possession, four misdemeanor warrant arrests, and two for non-moving violations. Troopers also issued 80 warnings for various other traffic violations during the operation, and a total of 226 vehicles were stopped.

Captain Ridens stated, “The impaired driver continues to be a major contributor to serious traffic crashes in Southeast Missouri. The DWI checkpoints are a part of the Patrol’s effort to remove intoxicated drivers from Missouri roadways. The troopers in the Troop E area will continue to pursue this goal.”
