EMPHASIS:
Officer-Involved Shooting In Kansas City, Missouri
At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2020, officers with the Kansas City (Missouri) Police Department were dispatched to the 2300 block of Topping Avenue to investigate an armed carjacking. At approximately 1:46 p.m. a KCPD officer located the suspect vehicle in the area of 20th and Elmwood. Preliminary investigation revealed the KCPD officer attempted to affect a traffic stop, but the suspect refused to stop. The suspect then lost control of the vehicle and crashed at 23rd and Lister. The suspect exited the vehicle and ran north. The KCPD officer pursued the suspect on foot and encountered the suspect a short distance away. At this time, the suspect presented a handgun. The officer discharged his weapon, striking the suspect. Officers at the scene rendered first aid. Emergency medical services personnel arrived at the scene and pronounced the suspect deceased at 2 p.m. There were no other injuries during the incident.
The Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control investigators were requested to respond to the scene. This is an ongoing investigation.
