EMPHASIS: Lieutenant W. Shane Sims Retires


Captain Shawn P. Skoglund, commanding officer Troop H, St. Joseph, announces Lieutenant W. Shane Sims will retire on June 1, 2024, after serving more than 28 years with the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Sims was appointed to the Patrol on January 1, 1996, as a member of the 71st Recruit Class. Upon completing his training at the Patrol's Law Enforcement Academy, he was assigned to Troop H, Zone 2, Nodaway and Worth counties. In 2001, Sims was promoted to corporal and served as the assistant zone supervisor in Zone 9, Livingston County. In 2004, he was promoted to sergeant and designated zone supervisor of Zone 2, Nodaway and Worth counties. In 2012, Sims became a commercial vehicle enforcement trooper, and was named supervisor of the Troop H Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2014, and remained assigned to Troop H.

Lieutenant Sims was born in Princeton, Missouri, and graduated from Princeton R-5. In 1993, he graduated from North Central Missouri College in Trenton, Missouri, with an associate of arts degree in general studies. Lieutenant Sims is married to Janara, and they have two grown children.
