EMPHASIS: Major Thomas E. Roam Retires


Colonel Ron Replogle, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces the retirement of Major Thomas E. Roam, Q/WPD, after 33 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Missouri. His retirement is effective February 1, 2014.

Roam began his career with the Missouri State Water Patrol on January 12, 1981. He graduated from the 19th Water Patrol Academy on May 8, 1981. His first assignment was to Pomme de Terre Lake in Hickory County. In April 1984, he joined the dive team, serving until 1997. In 1994, the dive team earned the Governor's Award for Quality and Productivity. On May 1, 1994, he was promoted to the rank of corporal and transferred to the Equipment and Supply Section, at the Water Patrol General Headquarters. While in this capacity, he was promoted to sergeant on February 1, 1999, and to captain on September 1, 2004. He was promoted to major on December 1, 2005, and named commander of Administrative Services at the Water Patrol General Headquarters. On January 1, 2011, the Missouri State Water Patrol merged into the Missouri State Highway Patrol. At that time, Major Roam was assigned as the director of the Highway Patrol's newly created Water Patrol Division.

Major Roam grew up near Plato, MO, where he graduated from high school in 1978. He attended College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, MO, where he majored in criminal justice. Roam graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation's National Academy in 2006. Major Roam and his wife, Wanda (Bacon), have three children, Nancy Burns, David Burns, and Caitlin Roam. They have three grandsons, Anthony, Joshua, and Jacob Burns, and a granddaughter, Elli Brandt.
