EMPHASIS: Troop B Chief Telecommunications Engineer Terry Barnett To Retire
Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces effective July 1, 2011, after more than 31 years of dedicated service, Troop B Chief Telecommunications Engineer Terry Barnett, will retire from the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Chief Barnett began his career with the Patrol on January 1, 1980, when he was assigned to Troop B as a Radio &Telecommunications Technician. On October 10, 1994, he was promoted to Radio & Telecommunications Training Engineer, and on May 1, 1998, was reclassified to Assistant Chief Telecommunications Engineer. On June 1, 2003, he was promoted to Chief Telecommunications Engineer and served in that capacity until his retirement.
Terry is a native of Bethany, Missouri, and graduated from South Harrison High School. After high school he attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri, where he earned an associate's degree in electronics. After college and prior to being employed by the Patrol, he worked as a television repairman. He is married to Jayne (Brokaw), a native of Lenox, Iowa, and they have three grown children: Kristi Northway, who lives in Woodburn, Iowa; and Jason Barnett and Kelli Clements, who both live in Macon, Missouri. Terry and Jayne have nine grandchildren and are expecting the tenth to arrive sometime in the fall of 2011.
During Chief Barnett's career, he taught a number of MULES classes to other law enforcement agencies and assisted in the training of new Patrol radio personnel. When not working the radio console, Terry repaired radio equipment and performed regular maintenance on Patrol radio towers throughout Missouri.
