EMPHASIS: Pursuit in Schuyler County


On Friday, February 9, 2007, at approximately 10:27 p.m., a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper, observed a 1989 GMC pickup turn on a city street, without using a turn signal, in Lancaster, Missouri. The trooper activated his emergency lights in an attempt to stop the pickup, and the driver fled north on a city street, then turned west on Romar Drive. At this point, the trooper observed the pickup to be occupied by three individuals. The pickup failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of Romar Drive and U.S. Highway 63, and was struck in the side by a 1997 Lincoln southbound on U.S. 63. After the collision, the driver of the 1989 GMC pickup got out of the vehicle and fled on foot. The trooper was injured during the foot pursuit and was later transported to the Northeast Regional Hospital in Kirksville, Missouri, for treatment of his injury.

Royce M. McElroy, 17, of Lancaster, Missouri, a passenger of the 1989 GMC pickup was transported to the Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, Missouri, by a Schuyler County ambulance, with moderate injuries.

Laura B. Walters, 18, of Lancaster, Missouri, a passenger of the 1989 GMC pickup was transported to the Northeast Regional Hospital in Kirksville, Missouri, by a Schuyler County ambulance, with moderate injuries.

The occupants of the 1997 Lincoln, Orvel Thompson, 67; Katherine Thompson, 13; and Carol Thompson, 67, all of Greentop, Missouri, were transported to the Northeast Regional Hospital in Kirksville, Missouri, by a Schuyler County ambulance, with moderate injuries.

On Saturday, February 10, 2007, the driver of the 1989 GMC pickup, Anthony B. Crump, 18, of Lancaster, Missouri, sought his own treatment at Northeast Regional Hospital in Kirksville, Missouri.
