EMPHASIS: Traffic Stop In Cass County Results In Drug Arrest And Seizure
At approximately 8:59 p.m., December 1, 2010, a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper stopped a 1998 Pontiac Bonneville for a traffic violation as it was traveling southbound on Missouri Highway 7 at U.S. Highway 71 in Cass County. After further investigation, the trooper asked for the driver’s consent to search his car, which he denied. The Butler Police Department was then requested to respond with their canine. The canine gave a positive indication for drugs in the vehicle. During the subsequent search approximately 51 pounds of packaged marijuana was located within the trunk compartment.
The driver of the vehicle, Arthur Williams, Jr., 47, of Kansas City, KS, was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute and was transported to the Cass County Jail. Assisting the Patrol in this investigation was the DEA Task Force, the Butler Police Department, and the Cass County Sheriff's Office.
The charge for which Williams was arrested is mere accusation and is not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charge must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
