EMPHASIS: Advisory Issued for Regatta Organizers on Lakes Affected by Flooding
Major Thomas E. Roam, director of the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Water Patrol Division announces the end of regatta cancelations past May 8th on Table Rock and Taneycomo Lakes. Due to record flooding and public safety concerns, the Highway Patrol has suspended all regatta permits issued on these lakes. Large amounts of floating debris and strong currents had made for unsafe conditions for boating on these lakes. The public was discouraged from boating on these lakes due to the safety concerns and also to minimize damage caused from boat wakes around flooded structures.
Water levels on these lakes remain well above average. While the amount of floating debris has been significantly reduced boaters should still be cautious. Boaters should also avoid operating near any structures still flooded by the high water. The Water Patrol Division of the Missouri State Highway Patrol will not cancel Regatta permits issued after May 8. Event organizers need to be aware of the current water conditions when considering whether or not to move forward with their events.
Many boat ramps and marinas around the lake will still be inaccessible due to the high water. Event organizers need to contact the marina facilities which their event is scheduled to take place at in order to determine if water levels are acceptable enough to use those facilities. Event organizers should also consider the water levels at public accesses around the lake. Regatta participants should contact the event organizer for information pertaining to the status of regattas scheduled after May 8th on Table Rock and Taneycomo Lakes.
