EMPHASIS: Thanksgiving Holiday Enforcement Effort

Captain Duane L. Robinson, commanding officer of Troop H in St. Joseph, announces two enforcement programs to help keep motorists safe while traveling during the busy travel days of the Thanksgiving Day weekend. The first is Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) a national safe driving campaign that Troop H will participate in all weekend. Troopers will be aggressively enforcing traffic laws and helping motorists who need assistance while traveling. The “20-Mile Trooper” operation is an enforcement program that attempts to reduce crashes on primary roadways in Troop H. The 20-Mile Trooper operation will be conducted on Wednesday, November 27, 2013, and Sunday, December 1, 2013. The hours of the program will be from 12 p.m. to midnight on November 27, 2013 and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on December 1, 2013. Interstate 29, along with U.S. Highways 36, 65, 71, and 169 have been selected as the locations for the operation.
Troopers will be located every 20 miles on Interstate 29, with an increased presence of troopers also working the U.S. highways in Troop H. Troopers will be in high visibility areas watching for impaired drivers and traffic violations, and enforcing the Patrol’s zero tolerance policy for seat belt and child restraint violations. All other types of hazardous driving will also be addressed.
Captain Robinson stated, "The number of fatalities in Troop H this year is 21 compared to 30 deaths in 2012. Remember, every fatality is a tragedy and represents a family’s loved one."
To report unsafe driving, motorists can use the Patrol’s emergency telephone numbers. They are 1-800-525-5555 or, on a cellular phone, *55.
The Patrol encourages motorists and watercraft operators to protect themselves by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint and everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life and Wear It!!!
