Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, announces the results of a DWI saturation in Taney County and a sobriety checkpoint conducted in McDonald County on July 24 and July 25, 2015, respectively. The enforcement locations were selected based on their high number of drinking and impairment-related crashes, in addition to other traffic violations that contribute to unsafe driving behavior.

During the operation in Taney County, troopers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol stopped 41 vehicles. The following is a list of enforcement contacts made during the operation:

DWI Arrests -- 3
Speed Violations -- 7
Seat Belt Citations -- 6
Child Restraint Offense -- 1
Careless And Imprudent Driving Violation -- 1
Driver License Violations -- 8
Uninsured Motorist Violations -- 3
Other Hazardous Moving Citations -- 8
Non-Moving Traffic Offenses -- 5
Misdemeanor Warrant Arrest -- 1
Misdemeanor Drug Arrest -- 1
Misdemeanor Criminal Arrests -- 3
Other Felony Arrest -- 1

Troopers also issued 61 warnings for various other traffic violations during the operation.

Troopers stopped 420 vehicles at the sobriety checkpoint in McDonald County. The following is a list of enforcement contacts made during the operation:

DWI Arrests -- 11
Seat Belt Violations -- 7
Driver License Violations -- 9
Uninsured Motorists Violation -- 1
Non-Moving Violations -- 6
Misdemeanor Warrant Arrests -- 2

Also, there were 28 warnings issued for various other traffic violations during the checkpoint.

In 2014, 205 people were killed and 3,372 injured in crashes involving an impaired driver. "The objective of DWI enforcement projects is to deter drinking and driving and to make citizens aware that drinking and impaired driving will not be tolerated," stated Captain Villanueva.

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
