The purpose of Operation A.R.R.E.S.T. is to increase the motoring public’s awareness of the hazards of operating a motor vehicle while in an intoxicated condition.
Operation A.R.R.E.S.T. was conducted from 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2011, to 3 a.m. on Sunday, July 17, 2011, in St. Louis County. This eight-hour project was conducted by six officers, who focused their enforcement efforts on identifying hazardous motor vehicle operations. During the operation, a total of 47 arrests were made along with 43 warnings. Nine subjects were arrested for driving while intoxicated, seven for following too close, four for no seatbelt, five for speed, one for failing to yield, fifteen non-moving summonses were issued, three subjects were arrested on outstanding warrants, and three subjects were arrested on drug possession charges.
Captain Johnson stated, “Driving while intoxicated continues to be responsible for approximately 30 percent of all fatal crashes on Missouri highways. Operation A.R.R.E.S.T. will assist in reducing the number of intoxicated drivers, traffic crashes, and fatalities that occur on our roadways.”
