EMPHASIS: Thanksgiving Holiday Traffic Enforcement

Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, Lee’s Summit, announces increased enforcement during the Thanksgiving holiday travel period. The 20-Mile Trooper enforcement operation is an initiative to reduce fatalities on interstates and designated highways in Missouri. The program dates are November 23, 2011, and November 27, 2011. The duration of each enforcement program will be 12 hours. The designated highways for the program in Troop A are Interstates 70, 35, 29, and 470, and U. S. Highways 50 and 71. The focus of the program is to maximize visibility to reduce traffic violations and, ultimately, traffic crashes. This operation will give the Patrol a noticeable presence and afford the agency an opportunity to expand the crash and fatality reduction to those corridors. Missouri is currently experiencing a seven percent reduction in traffic fatalities compared to the same time period last year. The Patrol is committed to continuing crash and fatality reduction through our education and enforcement efforts.

“Our goal is to make traveling on Missouri’s highways safer for everyone,” stated Captain Robert L. Powell. “Remember to do your part. Obey the speed limit, pay attention to the job of driving, always buckle your seat belt, and if you are going to drink, please do not drive.”

Should you find yourself in need of assistance, or observe another motorist operating a vehicle in an unsafe manner contact your local law enforcement agency or contact the Missouri State Highway Patrol at 1-800-525-5555 or *55 on a cellular phone.
