EMPHASIS: Troop I Community Alliance Program

On October 11, 2011, Troop I Headquarters of the Missouri State Highway Patrol completed its sixth Community Alliance Program (citizen’s academy). This program was a unique opportunity for residents throughout the Troop I area to gain insight and a better perspective of the training and duties experienced by officers of the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The program was conducted at Troop I Headquarters and consisted of five, three-hour training sessions held on consecutive Tuesday evenings during the months of September and October. Participants received classroom and practical instruction on various topics such as firearms, stopping and approaching vehicles, traffic crash investigations, criminal investigations, and driving while intoxicated enforcement.

The graduation ceremony on the final evening of the program included a dinner and the presentation of “Community Alliance Program” plaques to each class member by Troop I Commanding Officer Captain Lee Ann H. Kenley. Presentations during the evening were also given by Jim Marcellus and Dr. Michael Elders. Mr. Marcellus spoke on the Patrol’s new Community Alliance Program’s Alumni Association, while Dr. Elders gave an informative explanation on the purpose and criteria for joining The Missouri Association of State Troopers Emergency Relief Society (The MASTERS).

A group photograph of the program’s 21 participating members is available upon request.
