Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, Weldon Spring, is pleased to announce the results of the Operation P.R.O.T.E.C.T. project that was conducted on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, in Franklin County, on Interstate 44 and Missouri Highway 100. During the eight-hour project, six troopers focused their attention on violations that occurred within two construction/work zones. The first work zone is located between Gray Summit, Missouri, and the Washington, Missouri, Exit 251. The second work zone is located on MO 100, between I-44 and Washington, Missouri.
As a result of the enforcement program, a total of 58 summonses and 50 warnings were issued. Of those summonses, 39 individuals were cited for exceeding the speed limit and two people were arrested for driving while intoxicated. The remainder of the summonses were issued for miscellaneous violations. During the eight-hour project, 74 vehicles were stopped for various traffic violations.
Captain Johnson said, “These types of operations that are conducted in construction/work zones make it safer for the motoring public, contractors, and state employees. Please obey the reduced speed limits and be attentive while driving through construction zones.”
