EMPHASIS:
2016 Memorial Day Totals For Troop B
Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces the 2016 Memorial Day weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop B area, which consists of the 16 northeast counties of Missouri. During the holiday weekend, troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort), and as an added enforcement effort also conducted a peak travel crash reduction operation on U.S. Highways 24, 61, and 63 on Friday, May 27, and Monday, May 30, 2016.
During the 2016 Memorial Day weekend traffic crash counting period, which began at 6 p.m., Friday, May 27, and ended at 11:59 p.m., Monday, May 30, 2016, Troop B officers investigated 29 traffic crashes resulting in 14 injuries, and one fatality. The fatality traffic crash occurred on May 28, 2016 in Knox County. Officers also investigated one boating crash that resulted in one individual being injured. Preliminary enforcement totals show officers issued 504 summonses for exceeding the posted speed limit, 161 summonses for seat belt violations, and 1,237 warnings; made 10 arrests for driving while intoxicated and 15 drug arrests; and assisted 425 motorists.
“Even though this major holiday period has ended, we want to urge motorists to continue to drive safely and always wear their seat belts,” stated Captain Wilt.
The only 100 percent survivable traffic crash is the one that never happens. Make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Every day as we travel on Missouri’s roadways, we trust that every driver on the road is going to obey the speed limit, pay attention, and drive sober.
“Don’t Violate The Trust.”
