EMPHASIS: Motorists Are Urged To Use Caution While Traveling

Captain Duane L. Robinson, commanding officer of Troop H in St. Joseph, urges motorists to use caution while traveling. The recent winter storm has left many roads in the state snow and ice covered, resulting in eight fatalities in the past 24-hours.
Motorists are strongly advised to check the weather before traveling and adjust their plans if winter weather has an impact on travel routes. Watch for changing road conditions and maintain a speed that is appropriate for the roadway. Never use cruise control unless the roads are dry and if you lose control of your vehicle, let off the accelerator and steer into the skid.
The best policy to safeguard your family against injury is to make sure everyone in the vehicle is wearing a seat belt and travel only when road crews have cleared travel routes. Motorists can check road conditions by accessing the Patrol's web site at mshp.dps.mo.gov and clicking on the road conditions tab, or by using the Missouri Department of Transportation's web map at, modot.com.
If motorists are involved in a crash or need to report a highway emergency, they are asked to contact the Patrol at 1-800-525-5555 or *55 for cell phones.
The Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves from all types of hazardous drivers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Click It 4 Life!
