Captain Lee Ann H. Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the Memorial Day weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop I area, which consists of six counties in South Central Missouri.
During the Memorial Day weekend traffic crash counting period, which began at 6:00 p.m., May 27, 2011, and ended at 11:59 p.m., May 30, 2011, Troop I officers investigated 22 traffic crashes, which resulted in eight injuries and no fatalities. Troop I officers made five arrests for driving while intoxicated, issued 247 speed citations, 78 seat belt summonses, and seven citations for child passenger safety restraint violations. Troopers assigned to Troop I also issued 432 warnings for various traffic violations over the weekend and assisted 133 motorists.
Captain Kenley stated, “For most Missourians the 2011 Memorial Day weekend was an enjoyable experience and a great way to begin summer. But, for some, the weekend will always be remembered for the friend or family member who was either killed or seriously injured in a traffic crash. Please make a commitment to making the rest of your summer both safe and fun by always obeying the rules of the road."
