EMPHASIS: Results Of DWI Checkpoint In Clay County On April 12, 2013

Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted on Friday evening, April 12, 2013. The checkpoint was a joint effort with the Kansas City Police Department. The checkpoint was held from 11 p.m. on Friday to 4 a.m. on Saturday and was located at U.S. 169 at NW Harlem Road. The location was determined by past arrests, incidents, and traffic crashes in the county.

A total of 879 cars were checked during this five-hour operation and members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department made the following arrests:

23 -- DWI
2 -- driving while revoked summonses
2 -- hazardous moving summonses
4 -- non-moving summonses

Captain Powell stated, "Statistics indicate every two hours and thirty minutes someone in Missouri is killed or injured in an alcohol-related crash. The goal of DWI enforcement projects is to deter impaired driving and to make citizens aware that drinking and driving will not be tolerated." To report a suspected intoxicated driver dial 9-1-1 or *55 on your cell phone.

The Patrol encourages motorists and watercraft operators to protect themselves by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint and everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life and Wear It!!!
