EMPHASIS: Results of Boating While Intoxicated Saturation Conducted in Troop C

Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, Weldon Spring, is pleased to announce the results of a boating while intoxicated saturation conducted on July 24, 2012, on the Meramec River in St. Louis County. During the eight-hour project, four troopers focused their enforcement activities on impaired boat operators, hazardous boat operation, and other hazardous boating violations that contribute to boating crashes.

As a result of the enforcement program, a total of 18 summonses and 25 warnings were issued. Of those summonses, one person was arrested for boating while intoxicated, two people were cited for non-moving violations, four people were cited for marine violations, and four people were cited for other misdemeanor violations. In addition, six people were arrested for misdemeanor drug violations and one person was arrested for a felony drug violation. Troopers also conducted eight marine inspections during the operation. During the eight-hour project, 29 vessels were stopped.

Captain Johnson stated, “Always make sure each boat passenger has a life jacket available, and never operate any type of watercraft after consuming alcohol. Boating is a fun recreational activity, but safety must be a priority”
