EMPHASIS: Subject Dies From Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound During Traffic Stop
On April 18, 2008, at approximately 1:35 p.m., a Missouri State Highway Patrolman stopped a 1989 Ford Ranger pickup for a traffic violation. The trooper contacted the driver and obtained his identification and insurance card and returned to his patrol vehicle. As the trooper approached the Ford Ranger to re-contact the driver, he found the driver slumped forward inside the vehicle, suffering from a single self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control responded to the scene to investigate the incident.
The driver, William D. Peck, age 56, of Kansas City, MO, was pronounced dead at the scene by Jackson County Medical Examiners. The body was transported to the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy.
