Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted on Friday evening, September 2, 2011. The checkpoint was a joint effort with the Kansas City Police Department and was held from 11 p.m. on Friday to 4 a.m. on Saturday. The checkpoint was located at Missouri 152 and Green Hills Road. The location was determined by past arrests, incidents, and traffic crashes in the county.

A total of 669 cars were checked during this five-hour operation and members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department made the following arrests:

28 -- DWI
5 -- driving while revoked summonses
1 -- misdemeanor possession of marijuana arrest
1 -- felony drug arrest
6 -- non-moving summonses

Captain Powell stated, "Statistics indicate every two hours, someone in Missouri is killed or injured in an alcohol related crash.
