EMPHASIS: Troop H Announces Thanksgiving Travel Operation

Captain Duane L. Robinson, commanding officer of Troop H, St. Joseph, announces that Troop H will participate in a project for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend to promote driving safety. The Holiday Travel Accident Reduction Effort is an initiative to reduce fatalities on interstates and designated highways in Missouri. The program dates are November 24, 2010, and November 28, 2010. The duration of each enforcement program will be 12 hours. The designated highways for the program in Troop H are Interstate 35, and U. S. Highways 36 and 65. The focus of the program is traffic violations, especially aggressive driving violations.

Over the past several years, the Patrol has experienced great success in traffic crash and fatality reduction on the interstate highways with the 10- and 15-Mile Trooper Operations on the heavily traveled holiday weekends. While the Patrol will still have a presence on the interstate highways throughout Missouri over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, shifting some of those troopers to U. S. and secondary highways will give the Patrol a noticeable presence and afford the opportunity to expand the crash and fatality reduction to those corridors. Missouri is currently experiencing a 7% reduction in traffic fatalities compared to the same time period last year, and the Patrol is committed to continuing crash and fatality reduction through our education and enforcement efforts.

“We want the public to enjoy the start of the holiday season by safely driving to and from their destinations,” states Capt. Robinson. “Make sure everyone in your vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.”
