EMPHASIS: Results Of DWI Sobriety Checkpoint Conducted In Scotland County And DWI Saturation Conducted In Knox County

Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted in Scotland County and a DWI Saturation conducted in Knox County.
On September 6, 2014, members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Scotland County Sheriff's Department, and the Memphis Police Department conducted a sobriety checkpoint on U.S. Highway 136 at Missouri Route 15, in Scotland County. As a result of the checkpoint, which began at 11:00 p.m. on September 6, 2014, and concluded at 3:00 a.m. on September 7, 2014, officers checked 84 vehicles, and issued three traffic citations and seven warnings. The following is a list of enforcement contacts made during the checkpoint:
1 -- Citation was issued for a seat belt violation.
2 -- Citations were issued for insurance violations.

A DWI saturation was held in Knox County from 11:00 p.m. on September 6, 2014, to 3:00 a.m. on September 6, 2014. During this enforcement operation, officers patrolled specific areas with a goal of detecting impaired drivers and other traffic violations that contribute to traffic crashes. As a result of the operations, officers made two arrests, and issued four traffic citations and 22 warnings. The following is a list of enforcement contacts made during the saturations:
2 -- Arrests were made for driving while intoxicated.
1 -- Citation was issued for exceeding the speed limit.
1 -- Citation was issued for a stop sign violation.
2 -- Citations were issued for other hazardous moving violations.

"The Patrol will conduct more traffic enforcement programs in the upcoming months," stated Captain Wilt. "The Missouri State Highway Patrol is very serious about removing the impaired driver from our roadways. If drinking is a part of your plans, choose a sober designated driver."
In support of "The Drive To ZERO Highway Deaths," the Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Watercraft operators should ensure that everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life And Wear It!!
