EMPHASIS: Methamphetamine Lab Seized In Newton County

On August 27, 2007, at approximately 8 p.m., a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper responded to a report of a person passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle on Iris Road in Newton County. Subsequent investigation led to the discovery of a mobile methamphetamine lab in the bed of a pickup truck.
The trooper located a black 1995 Chevrolet pickup bearing Missouri license parked on the shoulder of Iris Road with a male subject seated in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. He was identified as Danny R. Shields, 44, of Republic, MO. A computer check of Mr. Shields showed a felony warrant had been issued for his arrest. Mr. Shields was placed under arrest for the warrant, handcuffed, and a wrecker was called to the scene to tow the pickup for safekeeping. The bed of the pickup was covered with a hard fiberglass lid. During an inventory search of the vehicle prior to it being towed the fiberglass lid was raised and a working methamphetamine lab was discovered in the pickup bed.
Danny R. Shields was placed under arrest for manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia, and transported to the Newton County Jail in Neosho, MO.
The charges for which Danny R. Shields was arrested are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented in a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence.
