Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer Troop C, St. Louis, is pleased to announce the results of a recent enforcement detail “Operation A.R.R.E.S.T.” (Alcohol Related Response Enforcement Strike Team). The purpose of Operation A.R.R.E.S.T. is to increase the motoring public’s awareness of the potential hazards of operating a motor vehicle while in an intoxicated condition.
Operation A.R.R.E.S.T. was conducted from 7 p.m. on Friday, February 12, 2010, to 3 a.m., Saturday, February 13, 2010, in St. Louis County. This eight-hour project was conducted by six officers, who focused their enforcement efforts on identifying hazardous motor vehicle operations and impaired driving conditions. During the operation, a total of 64 vehicles were stopped. Of those stopped, 45 arrests were made and 49 warnings were issued. Included in the totals were six driving while intoxicated arrests and two drug arrests. Additional summonses issued include18 non-moving violations, seven seat belt violations, and seven speed violations.
Captain Johnson stated, “Driving while intoxicated continues to be responsible for approximately 27 percent of all fatal crashes on Missouri highways. Operation A.R.R.E.S.T. will assist in reducing the number of intoxicated drivers, traffic crashes, and fatalities that occur on our roadways.”
