EMPHASIS: Troop I Announces July Fourth Holiday Arrests And Crash Statistics

Captain James W. Remillard, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the July Fourth holiday traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop I area, which consists of six counties in South Central Missouri. From July 3, 2014 through July 6, 2014, troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort). During the peak travel periods on both July 3, 2014 and July 6, 2014, special enforcement operations also were conducted. These included the 20-Mile Trooper project on Interstate 44 and other projects on the secondary highways. There were zero fatal traffic crashes on highways covered by the 20-Mile Trooper project.

Enforcement efforts through the holiday period resulted in 294 citations for exceeding the posted speed limit, 151 citations for seat belt violations, seven citations for child restraint violations, and the issuance of 685 warnings. Troopers also made 18 driving while intoxicated arrests, one boating while intoxicated arrest, and 24 arrests for drug violations. During this holiday period, officers assigned to Troop I investigated 29 traffic crashes that resulted in 22 injuries, but no fatalities. Troop I officers also investigated one drowning. There were 262 motorist assists and other calls for service during this period.

Captain Remillard stated, “Whether through our enforcement efforts, responding to an emergency, or assisting someone who is in need, the Patrol’s motto of “Service and Protection” was again our objective over this holiday period. I hope your family was not touched by the tragic loss of life or injury that often occurs from either a vehicle or boating crash. Again, please keep safety in mind when you are traveling this summer and make each outing both a pleasant and memorable experience.”

In support of “The Drive To ZERO Highway Deaths,” the Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Watercraft operators should ensure that everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life And Wear It!!!
