EMPHASIS: Troop D Announces Results Of Sobriety Checkpoint And DWI Enforcement Saturation

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, announces the results of a DWI saturation in Greene County and a sobriety checkpoint conducted in Barry County on May 1 and 2, 2015, respectively. The enforcement locations were selected based on their high number of drinking and impairment-related crashes, in addition to other traffic violations that contribute to unsafe driving behavior.

During the operation in Greene County, officers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol stopped 54 vehicles. The following is a list of enforcement contacts made during the operation:

DWI Arrests -- 3
Speed Violations -- 4
Seat Belt Citations -- 23
Child Restraint Offense --1
Following Too Close Violation -- 1
Driver License Violations -- 5
Uninsured Motorist Violations -- 9
Other Hazardous Moving Citations -- 4
Non-Moving Traffic Offenses -- 11
Misdemeanor Warrant Arrest -- 1
Misdemeanor Drug Arrests -- 7

Officers also issued 68 warnings for various other traffic violations during the operation.

Troopers stopped 107 vehicles at the sobriety checkpoint in Barry County. The following is a list of enforcement contacts made during the operation:

Also, there were 37 warnings issued for various other traffic violations during the operation.

"The objective of DWI enforcement projects is to deter drinking and driving and to make citizens aware that drinking and driving will not be tolerated," stated Captain Villanueva. The Missouri State Highway Patrol urges all citizens to report any vehicle they observe operating in a careless manner. In support of "The Drive To ZERO Highway Deaths," the Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
