EMPHASIS: Rolla Man Arrested For Child Pornography

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control reports the arrest of Michael D. Shimon, 33, of Rolla, Missouri, for felony promoting child pornography and felony possession of child pornography. Shimon was arrested on September 23, 2016, after a lengthy investigation conducted by members of the Division of Drug and Crime Control’s Digital Forensics Investigative Unit.

On Friday, investigators served a search warrant at Shimon’s residence located on the 1700 block of North Walnut Street, Rolla. As a result of the search, investigators located child pornography and electronic equipment used to commit the crime. Shimon was arrested and transported to the Phelps County Jail.

The Phelps County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office formally charged Shimon with felony promoting child pornography 1st degree and felony possession of child pornography. Shimon is being held with a $150,000 bond. The Patrol was assisted by officers of the Rolla Police Department.

Captain Eric T. Olson, director of the Division of Drug and Crime Control, encourages Internet users to promptly report to the Patrol or local law enforcement anyone who attempts to engage in unwanted, inappropriate, or sexualized communications with children.

The above arrest is mere accusation and is not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of these charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
