EMPHASIS: Results Of DWI Checkpoint In Clay County On May 11, 2012


Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted on Friday evening, May 11, 2012. The checkpoint was a joint effort with the Kansas City Police Department. The checkpoint was held from 11 p.m. on Friday to 4 a.m. on Saturday and was located at Missouri 152 eastbound at North Green Hills Road. The location was determined by past arrests, incidents, and traffic crashes in the county.

A total of 829 cars were checked during this five-hour operation. Members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department made the following arrests:

12 -- DWI
1 -- Hazardous moving summons
1 -- Non-moving summons

Captain Powell stated, "Statistics indicate every two hours, someone in Missouri is killed or injured in an alcohol related crash. The goal of DWI enforcement projects is to deter impaired driving and to make citizens aware that drinking and driving will not be tolerated."
